Alfa Romeo is much more than an Italian badge born over a century ago. It is a devotion that still stands for something totally original and uncompromising, especially in innovation and engineering. It is a strong passion for motoring unlike any other. This history of pioneering technology continues: on its 105th anniversary, Alfa Romeo entered a new era with Giulia Quadrifoglio. A car that couldn’t be created by anyone else, anywhere else in the world.

STARTING FROM THE BLANK PAGE

In 2013, Alfa Romeo created the ”Skunk Works”, a unique Team of designer, engineers and technicians. Their mission was to bring back the Brand to glory and to innovate following a revolutionary approach. Their rules were few and clear: uncompromising passion and absolute creative freedom.

The Skunks started from a blank page, listing every characteristic a genuine Alfa Romeo should have. They didn’t build a car, they created it with pride. With their passion and pioneering spirit the Skunks delivered the Giulia Quadrifoglio in only 2 years: the purest Alfa Romeo DNA is back. A new innovative chapter is about to be written.

THE REVOLUTIONARY PLATFORM

To bring back authentic driving pleasure, the Brand created a new project code-named Giorgio.
Alfa Romeo engineers conceived an innovative RWD platform with an ideal weight distribution 50/50 oon front and rear, forged from an alloy of ultralight materials and engineered to underpin different categories of vehicles. The scheme of the platform Giorgio, light and rigid at the same time, is the key-factor to reach many best-in-class in terms of efficiency and safety. Its technical peculiarity also allow each Alfa Romeo to obtain a superior driving dynamics, which know no parallel in the automotive market.

THE UNCOMPROMISING HEART

Since its foundation, the powertrain innovation drove the Brand to legendary racing achievements. Today, the state-of-the-art technology in the Brand’s powertrain is the ultimate 2.9ℓ V6 90° bi-turbo 510hp engine, entirely in Aluminium. Despite its sensational power and torque values, this V6 is extremely efficient thanks to an exclusive electronic cylinders deactivation system. This technology is a class-leading innovation and, at the same time, a return to the past: at the beginning of the ‘80s, Alfa Romeo engineers were the first in the world to develop this concept.

CONTROLLED BY AN EVOLVED BRAIN

The Alfa Romeo electronic systems are now ruled by a proper “brain”. The Chassis Domain Control is a module which integrates the actions of the ESC, the Torque Vectoring system, the adaptive suspensions and the exclusive Integrated Brake System. This cutting-edge solution is provided with a specific “emotional intelligence” that coordinates the intervention of any electronic system to achieve the best dynamic performance through an intuitive and appealing driving sensation.

SENSATIONS AT THE STEERING WHEEL

The feeling of driving an Alfa Romeo must be unmistakable and unforgettable. That’s why the engineering avant-garde of the Brand developed a unique suspension scheme. On the front, the latest creations of Alfa Romeo feature a double wishbone suspension with semi-virtual steering wheel shaft that let the driver steer quickly and precisely, leading to a perfect tyre imprint on the track and a unique sensation of control. On the rear, Giulia and Stelvio are equipped with the new AlfalinkTM, an Aluminium multilink scheme that provides the best control, traction, stability and vibrations filtering.

THE SUPERIOR ALFA ROMEO HANDLING

One of the most advanced technological feature developed by Alfa Romeo engineering Team is the Torque Vectoring. It’s a system that provide the rear differential with the ability to vary the power to each wheel, improving traction and performance. Its technology guarantees a quick reaction at the steering and as an excellent stability of the tyres, even at high speed and in extreme atmospheric conditions. Alfa Romeo also introduced the new Q4, the exclusive on-demand AWD system designed to offer a real time performance management. A safe and sporty solution that self-adapts to any driving style and road conditions, delivering only the advantages of a the AWD with the performance and the efficiency of a a genuine Alfa Romeo.

THE QUEST FOR LIGHTNESS

Less weight, more speed: the racing legacy of Alfa Romeo was critical in the development of new vehicles on the Giorgio platform. The new range achieve the best in class power-to-weight ratio thanks to the extensive use of ultralight materials as carbon fiber, Aluminum and Aluminum/plastic compound. All new Alfa Romeo engines are in Aluminum, Stelvio and Giulia feature a carbon fiber driveshaft as standard, while the Giulia Quadrifoglio is the only sedan in the world with full carbon fiber roof and hood.

THE AERODYNAMICS

Since its foundation Alfa Romeo developed innovative solutions to excel in motor racing: the continuous research in aerodynamics was critical in obtaining superior performance.
Today, the brand’s commitment in the wind tunnel allowed Giulia Quadrifoglio to become the only sedan in the world equipped with an Active Aero System, a technology that furtherly improves downforce at high speed. Beyond a record drag coefficient, great attention was dedicated to efficiency: with its unique design Giulia Quadrifoglio reaches the best-in-class Cx value (0,27).

RADICAL CHOICES

Each new Alfa Romeo is developed using the Quadrifoglio, the most powerful and competitive version, as a starting point. The first version is developed with the target of optimal 50/50 weight distribution in mind, featuring a longitudinal aluminum engine, a carbon fibre driveshaft and a series of patented technical solutions. It must also excel in power-to-weight ratio, 0-100 km/h timing and top speed. That’s what sets us apart from other brands: while others supercharge “standard” versions to create performance cars, Alfa Romeo creates “everyday cars” starting from supercars.
