Engine Cylinder Sleeves – Manufacturer and Exporter

Jaidarshan Indocraft Pvt. Ltd. manufactures centrifugally cast engine cylinder sleeves at our ISO 9001:2015 certified foundry in Ahmedabad, India. We supply engine remanufacturers, rebuilders and spare-parts distributors in over 21 countries, in standard sizes and to customer drawings, under our JAI NO 1 and MDT brands.

What Is an Engine Cylinder Sleeve?

A cylinder sleeve — also called a cylinder liner — is a cylindrical insert fitted into the engine block. It provides the running surface for the piston and piston rings, and protects the block from heat, friction and wear. When a bore wears beyond its service limit, fitting a new sleeve restores the engine at a fraction of the cost of replacing the block.

Dry Sleeves and Wet Sleeves

 Dry sleeveWet sleeve
Coolant contactNone – full contact with the blockOuter wall in direct contact with coolant
Wall thicknessThinner, typically 1.5–3 mmThicker and self-supporting
CoolingIndirect, through the blockDirect, more even temperature
FitmentPressed into the blockSealed with O-rings
Typical useAutomotive and light commercialHeavy-duty, marine and generator

We manufacture both types. If you are unsure which your engine requires, send us the engine make and model or the old sleeve, and our team will confirm.

Materials and Grades

Our sleeves are centrifugally cast in grey cast iron, SG (ductile) iron, low-carbon steel, stainless steel and Ni-Resist. Irons are alloyed with molybdenum, nickel, chromium and vanadium to improve wear resistance and corrosion resistance under high temperature and pressure.

Every heat is verified by spectrometer in our in-house metallurgy laboratory before casting is released.

Standards: IS 210, IS 1865, ASTM A48, EN-GJL and EN-GJS series

Size Range and Tolerance

Inner diameter45 mm – 400 mm
Outer diameter50 mm – 500 mm
LengthUp to 650 mm
Bore tolerance± 0.03 mm

Larger castings can be produced to customer requirement.

Machining and Finishing

Sleeves are finished on CNC, VMC and VTL machines, then ground and honed in-house. Cross-hatch honing is applied to specification so that the bore retains an oil film and seats the piston rings correctly during run-in.

Applications

  • Cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles
  • Tractors and earthmovers
  • Diesel generators and gas engines
  • HVAC and reciprocating compressors
  • Marine, mining and pneumatic equipment
  • Locomotive and defence applications
  • ATV, drone and racing engines

Frequently Asked Questions

When should a cylinder sleeve be replaced?
When bore wear, ovality or scoring exceeds the engine manufacturer’s service limit, or when compression loss and oil consumption indicate the bore is no longer sealing.

What is the difference between a sleeve and a liner?
The terms are used interchangeably. “Sleeve” is more common in North America, “liner” in Europe and Asia. Both describe the same component.

Can you manufacture from a sample?
Yes. Send a physical sample, a drawing or the OEM part number and we will quote against it.

What tolerance do you hold on the bore?
± 0.03 mm as standard. Tighter tolerances can be discussed for specific applications.

Do you supply in matched sets?
Yes, sleeves can be supplied in matched sets for multi-cylinder engines on request.
